Is it Common to Go Bald at a Younger Age?

Introduction

Hair loss is a common thing, so if you’re wondering why this is happening to you, then you better check your family photo album because the most likely reason for your early baldness is your genes.

Early onset balding is more common in males because it only takes at least one parent to have those genes to be able to get it, too. If you’re experiencing some of the symptoms while at a young age, don’t worry. Here are some things that you might be happy to learn.

Is it Common?

If you’re worried that you’re losing hair at such a young age, don’t be. Although hair loss is more evident in older men, about 40 percent of males begin to notice hair loss at the age of 35. This is the average number, so you’d actually fall under the category of men who start noticing hair loss at earlier ages such as 20 or even younger.

Causes

Unfortunately, the most common cause for hair loss at such a young age is often genetic. This means that it has been passed down to you for generations and you will continue to pass it down to your kids. This also means that it was inevitably hard-wired into your DNA – the blueprints that make you who you are.

However, your genes are not the only reason that’s capable of making you lose your hair at a young age. Trauma can also cause hair loss. Weeks or months following a physical or psychological trauma, some individuals have been observed to have more hair loss occur.

Certain medication can also be attributed to hair loss. However, this is probably not the one causing your hair loss because if you’re taking medicine that can have this effect, your doctor would have informed you beforehand. You can see this perfectly evident in people who are undergoing chemotherapy to battle cancer.

Additionally, not all causes are due to body chemistry. Stress has also been known to be an agent of hair loss because too much work and too little sleep is not good for the hair. Let’s just say too much stress is not good for the body in general.

Signs and What to Look Out For

There are signs to look out for if you fear hair loss. The first thing you can do is to check your pillow when you get up in the morning. After a night of tossing and turning or even if you just lay there perfectly still, you’re bound to see a few strands of hair. However, if you see that there’s a lot of hair left on your pillows every morning, then maybe you should consider that you’re beginning to lose your hair.
Another thing you could do is to simply get a mirror and visually examine your head. Male pattern baldness is a probable diagnosis if you notice your hair thinning at the crown of the head. This usually signifies a receding hairline which is an early symptom of pattern baldness.

Prevention and Treatment

One thing that you could consider in the prevention of early hair loss, is a change of diet. You don’t necessarily have to change your entire diet, but there are a few things that you should be sure to include.

Protein is a necessary macronutrient for healthy hair growth. The protein you consume gets digested and broken down into amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. The more amino acids you have, the more proteins your body can make. This includes the protein that is used to develop and grow hair – keratin. You can get most of your protein requirements from meat and eggs.

Also, be sure to have enough vitamins in your system. There are a lot of vitamins out there and you’re going to need a few specific vitamins to help maintain the health of your hair. These include vitamin B and vitamin E. Both have been known to promote scalp health by improving scalp circulation. Undoubtedly, a healthy scalp means healthy hair.

If stress is your cause, then you realize that all you have to do is take a minute and calm down. Maybe look into calm-inducing activities which have been known to be able to control and suppress stress like yoga and meditation.

If it’s too late for prevention, then maybe it’s time for men’s hair loss treatments. Hair transplants are surgical methods that implant healthy hair follicles extracted from your own head into other areas in need. There are also topical products that have been shown to be successful as treatments.
