Is it Common for Women to Lose their Hair?

Introduction

It’s no surprise why our hair is sometimes referred to as the crowning glory. It’s often one of the first things we notice in a person. Unfortunately, hair isn’t forever; it inevitably falls off. It also does so quicker in some people than others. Although we see it happen more in men, women can just be as affected. Don’t worry, though, because hair loss is something that can be treated and if you’re ahead of it, it can even be prevented.now a very attainable goal.

Is it Normal?

Hair loss for both men and women is perfectly normal. This allows room for new hair to grow and a cycle will continue where hair grows and then falls out and then repeat. However, while hair loss in itself is normal, there is a difference between normal hair loss and abnormal hair loss.

This difference can boil down to the amount of hair that you lose. An average woman can lose 50-100 strands a day and still have normal hair growth and hair loss. A number above this can signify abnormal hair loss.

This can be determined by doing a simple technique. Gather about 60 strands of your hair and pull at it. Having around 6 strands pulled out would fall under the normal amount of hair loss. However, if you managed to pull significantly more strands of hair like 15-20, then that could be a sign of excessive hair loss.

Don’t worry for this is not where your story ends. If caught early, or if this isn’t a genetic trait, then there are some things that you could do to reverse it.

Causes

Hair loss in women can be attributed to numerous factors. To try to understand hair growth and its health, it’s better to consider the hair follicle beneath the scalp rather than the hair strands themselves. Different things can affect the hair follicles such as medication, illness, infection, or certain chemicals.

Hair loss can also be a genetic factor rather than an environmental one. Just as men have male pattern baldness, women also have female pattern baldness. This is more evident in men because this can be passed down from father to son but this is a rarer case for women because in order to get this, it’s likely that both parents suffer from hair loss.

Preventions and Treatments

There are a number of ways to treat and even prevent hair loss. The most common cause of hair loss is just an imbalance in your body chemistry that you simply have to correct with certain supplements. Protein is something that you should always include in your diet as the amino acids derived from the protein in your diet is being used to develop new hair in the form of keratin. You can get your healthy protein from eggs and meat.

Omega 3 can also help prevent hair loss as it helps maintain moisture in the scalp. Vitamin E is also another supplement that can specifically benefit the scalp by improving scalp circulation. Additionally, follicle health can be supplemented with vitamin B. If you’re not taking any vitamin B supplements, then you can easily add vitamin B into your diet by including fruits and vegetables into the mix.

Have you ever noticed how easily your hair comes off when you pull at it when you’re stressed? That in itself should be a clue. Your hair can do its best to stay beautiful as long as you know how to calm yourself down.

Even if you are in a job or environment that is prone to stress, then you should adapt and learn how to manage that stress. Meditation and exercise are proven methods to reduce stress.

Another way to reduce the risk of hair loss is to ease up on the use of high temperature tools. The use of hair curlers, hair straighteners and even the blow dryer on high all the time can take away the natural moisture in your hair that keeps them from being brittle and breaking off prematurely.

When prevention isn’t an option anymore, hair restoration for women is an option for treatment. Hair restoration includes hair transplants for women by embedding grafted hair follicles extracted from their own scalps prior to the procedure.

Anesthesia is used during the procedure but a little pain should be expected during recovery in this women’s hair loss treatment. Although there are different types of hair loss, hair transplants are a good method against most of them so you don’t have to worry about it. Transplants are even considered as female pattern baldness treatments.
